RED DOT SIGHTS ON DUTY PISTOLS

In today’s technologically advanced world, law enforcement agencies are always trying to be up to date with these advances to provide the best opportunities for their officers. One piece of equipment that has gained a lot of traction is the miniature red dot sight for pistols (MRDS). As this is not new technology, competitive shooters have been using them since the late 90’s early 2000’s, advancement in technology has made the MRDS very reliable and duty capable.
Why So why the sudden surge in MRDS for Law Enforcement? It will make the officer a better shooter and decision maker. Now, the MRDS will not increase your scores immediately. The shooter must have a solid foundation in the fundamentals of marksmanship as the MRDS is not a magic cure for the “flinchies.”

LEGISLATIVE DAY

The ISPA's Second Annual Legislative Day went off without a hitch. The food, coffee and conversations started early with most of the board of directors, along with our lobbyists, grabbing legislators as they started filing into the Capital. Conversations over our Blue Alert bill went well and I got the impression legislators wanted to do something positive for law enforcement. A couple legislators asked of my connection with the "silver alert" bill and I had to explain that's just my natural hair color after being a cop for nearly 30 years. It appears our efforts from last year and this winter will pay off and hope that we get Blue Alert signed into law this spring.

Hello everyone, I hope you’ve all enjoyed our mild winter however it’s Iowa and we are not out of the woods yet! In January myself and 1st Vice President Sgt. Steve Hanson with the Fort Dodge Police Department had the opportunity of representing the Iowa State Police Association (ISPA) at the National Association for Police Organizations (NAPO) Pensions and Benefits Seminar in Sunny Las Vegas, NV. It was funny for us Iowans to observe the locals wearing winter coats in 60-degree weather.

SIOUX CITY POLICE PROMOTIONS INCLUDE ISPA LEADERSHIP

The Sioux City Police Department is proud to announce the promotion of Officer Zach Lewis to the rank of Sergeant. Zach is a 14-year veteran of law enforcement. His past assignments with the SCPD include work as a patrol officer, field training officer, property crimes detective, arson investigator, school resource officer, and DARE instructor. Zach also serves the department as a member of the Crisis Negotiations Team and Critical Incident Stress Management Team. Officer Lewis is a precision driving instructor, and a pilot for the department’s UAV Drone Unit.
